P.E. & Sports Premium Funding
In March 2013 the government announced that they would introduce a dedicated primary P.E. and Sports Premium that would go directly to primary school head teachers so that they could decide how best to use it to provide sporting activities for pupils.
The government has since announced that they would continue the P.E. funding in Primary Schools.
Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:
hire specialist P.E. teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during P.E. lessons
support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs
provide resources and training courses in P.E. and sport for teachers
run sport competitions or increase pupils' participation in the School Games.
run sports activities with other schools
Accountability
Since September 2013, Ofsted inspections have reported on P.E. and sport provision and on how schools spend their additional funding.
Schools are accountable and are required to publish by April 2014, on their websites, details of how they spend (or will spend) their P.E. and Sport Premium funding. They must also include detail about the impact this funding has on pupils' P.E. and sport participation and attainment.
